VH

Digital Velvet is the new side project of gifted french producer Julien Chastagnol, aka Ruby My Dear, known for his radical, technical, detailed and raging productions he has been firing from reknown labels such as Ad Noiseam, Acroplane or Peace Off.
For this ethereal and oniric trip Julien gathers with an allié of choice: Anna, a singer and writer that has gained recognition over the years in the french underground Dub scene. She, from her own words, defends a "music of life" that has the ambition to go deeper than the usual codes of the dancefloor. Her jazz tinted voice, both intimate and full of attitude, talks to you in the face. She brillantly spices instrumentals from a Ruby My Dear who puts aside his frenetical Breakcore to explore a colorful and funky Breakbeat flavoured with Glitch Hop, IDM, Skweee and some of this mythical Bristol TripHop made famous by Massive Attack or Portishead's early works.
A guest of choice also makes an apparition on this deep piece of work: maybe the most electronica MC of them all, a veteran of HipHop crossovers: Non from Shadow Huntaz.

After his previous succesful albums Shallow and Profound and Splendid Isolation, Hungarian producer Yonderboi has finally finished his third album. The highly anticipated final part of his trilogy called Passive Control is coming out on 23rd September at Mole Listening Pearls.
During the past decade Yonderboi has grown from a teenager into a 31 year old man constantly experimenting and looking for challenges. That’s why on the new album he tried to do more and more by himself, from songwriting to recording and making the album cover. The "DIY dandy" explained his approach, interviewing himself to Hungarian fashion magazine The Room: "Lots of todays music or film projects are rather similar to a production line, which delivers products that are perfect in every detail, but still give a muddled and impersonal impression in total. It is not the goal to create a product that is perfect in every particle, but to create a final result that is as personal as possible.”
The upcoming album was inspired by Yonderboi’s big loves: sci-fi and fantasy visuals, mostly works by the legendary French comics artist Jean Gireaud Moebius, and films like Kin-Dza-Dza and the Hungarian cult-film Meteo. The title Passive Control is another oxymoron after his earlier releases and refers to the period while he was working on the new material. At that time the social network boom had its impression also on Yonderboi giving him ideas for more experiments. However he is not really interested any of the networking sites, even though he found his female voice, the Cologne-based 24 years old Charlotte Brandi via Myspace. Her voice is the key of Passive Control to bring balance to the album trilogy.

Not only are they great songwriters but also as a band they are accomplished producers...

Three years ago Skinny entered the musical arena with the release of their critically acclaimed debut The Weekend.
The single "Failure", a quirky testimony to self-loathing, did much to raise their profile and was astrong indication that this was a band with ability and a healthy sense of humour. Then, much to their frustration, their record company was sold to a major and in the process all of the acts were frozen until the deal was done. Cryogenic suspension anyone?
However, the interim was well spent with Matty Benbrook joining forces with label mates Faithless, benefiting from Rollo's studio expertise. Meanwhile, chief songwriter Paul Herman helped Rollo's soon-to-be-very-famous sister Dido with the writing of No Angel, in particular "Thank You" as used by Eminem on "Stan".
Away from the promotional rigmarole Skinny have grown up, reassessed and paid attention to the detail on this impressive second album.
Taller is a departure from their concept debut to a more song-based approach. That said the furrow ploughed by this album is wide, offering an innovative sound that draws on post-club electronica as well as the more traditional rock elements.
"Coming Up Roses" creates its' optimism with a surge of guitars, giant drums and a soul stirring admission, 'I'm taller than houses, I'm faster than the brightest light, I'm the king of England'. Passionate stuff, but things don't alwayssmellso good as Skinny's focus takes in the lows as well as the highs.
Paul's meditation on family "Worth It" poses difficulties, 'The lying, the crying and the fighting, the judgement, the time spent in denial. Was it worth it?' Yet, their take on Gunter Kallman Choir's 'Daydream', "On A Beautiful Day" is a summer time dub that raises the mood again.
Not only are they great songwriters but also, as a band, they are accomplished producers well versed in the art of keeping things polished, simple and interesting. Skinny are, by their own admission, a new band who feel like they are starting again and in a peculiar way they are making a second debut with this aptly named release. Time has been a difficult taskmaster for Paul, Matty, Tim and Dave but they have returned in fine style. Bigger. Brighter. Taller.
